Politics in the 21st Century

15 October, 2008

You know, it was bound to happen. Barak Obama has invested in campaign ads in video games. As a technophile, I like the idea that computer avenues are being utilized in the political process but what does this say about us as a nation? I cannot believe that this is a good trend for American freedom.

There was a time in this country when citizens paid attention to their government. As a people, we were united in our desire for the nation to prosper. From my perspective, it appears that Americans now are only concerned with creature comforts and are more than willing to trade their freedoms for treats. We have devolved from an informed populace into a sound-bit culture. Today the substance of a presidential candidate’s platform isn’t nearly as “important” as his catch phrases. That cannot be good for the future of our nation.

Ben Franklin told us that they, the Founding Fathers, had given us a Republic. The ominous follow on was, “if you can keep it.”
